Do Buffered Local Anesthetics Provide More Successful Anesthesia Over Non-Buffered Solutions in Patients Requiring Dental Therapy? – A Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: The pH of commercially available local anesthetics (LAs) is purposefully low (pH 3–4). Decreasing the pH extends the shelf life of the solution and prevents its early oxidation. However, a low pH may produce a burning sensation on the injection site, a slower onset of anesthesia, and a decrease in its clinical efficacy. Buffering of local anesthetics (alkalinization) by adding sodium bicarbonate has been suggested to achieve better pain control, reduce the pain of injection and produce a faster onset of local anesthetics. The aim of this review is to utilize a systematic review to collate evidence on the use of buffering agents with local anesthetics and its effect on causing profound pulpal anesthesia in patients requiring dental therapy and its side effects.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: We sought to carry out a systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic value of epicutaneous patch testing in patients with oral lichenoid lesions (OLLs). METHODS: Bibliographic searches were conducted in electronic databases such as PubMed, the Cochrane library, EBSCO, Scopus, Web of knowledge and Google scholar from January 1990 to December 2011. متن کاملDouble-Blind Crossover Study to Compare Pain Experience During Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block Administration Using Buffered Two Percent Lidocaine in Children.
PURPOSE Buffering of anesthetic solutions has been suggested to reduce pain on injection and onset of anesthesia. The purpose of this study was to assess the reduction in pain on injection during inferior alveolar nerve block administration in children. METHODS A double blind crossover study was designed where 30 six- to 12-year-old patients received two sessions of inferior alveolar nerve bl...
متن کاملEffect of single-dose intravenous ibuprofen before surgery on post-anesthesia pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction: During the last few years, the trend of using non-opioid drugs for the management of pain after surgery has been highly welcomed, and on the other hand, considering the contradictory results of the preventive use of intravenous ibuprofen before surgery, the present study aimed at the effect of a single dose of intravenous ibuprofen before surgery. A systematic review and meta-anal...
متن کامل[Comparison of two modified lidocaine solutions for local anesthesia in blepharoplasty].
PURPOSE To compare pain on injection of two modified anesthetic lidocaine solutions for use in upper blepharoplasty: 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine, and 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine buffered 9:1 with 8.4% sodium bicarbonate. METHODS In this prospective, double-masked study, 25 consecutive patients undergoing upper blepharoplasty were submitted to the anesthesic procedure. ...
